Window Coverings and Energy Efficiency

Wednesday, May 7 2014 8:43 AM

In addition to providing insulation, solar heat control and day lighting, window coverings can help control two other types of energy: ultraviolet light and sound.

Ultraviolet Protection
Ultraviolet light is an invisible part of sunlight. Because UV damages furnishings, it is sometimes called the invisible enemy. In time, it fades furniture, upholstery, wood floors, draperies, carpeting and artwork. Window coverings can be very effective in blocking UV rays.

Sound Absorption
Soft window coverings can absorb up to 70% of sound energy, which helps quiet your home environment.
